Love chess? Enjoy working with kids? **Caesar Chess** is looking for dependable, energetic individuals to lead after-school chess programs throughout the Birmingham area.
As a coach, you’ll teach engaging beginner-friendly chess lessons, guide students during gameplay, and create a fun, encouraging learning environment. No matter a student’s skill level, you’ll help them build confidence, strengthen critical thinking, and develop problem-solving skills through the game of chess.

We’re seeking dependable, patient, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Coaches (ages 18+). If you enjoy working with kids and have a passion for chess, we’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need to be a chess expert or have previous teaching experience. A solid understanding of the rules of chess, a willingness to learn, and a positive, leadership-focused attitude are what matter most.
Coaches should be available to lead in-person after-school chess programs at least one afternoon each week in the Birmingham, Alabama area. If you’re ready to make a difference while helping students improve their chess game, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities
- Teach engaging, beginner-friendly chess lessons.
- Create a fun, positive, and well-managed classroom environment.
- Bring required class materials (training materials are provided; coaches are responsible for printing any required handouts).
- Supervise students from the start of class until they are released to a parent, guardian, or approved school personnel.
- Work collaboratively with Caesar Chess staff and school personnel to ensure a successful program.
- Encourage students while promoting good sportsmanship, confidence, and analytical thinking.
Qualifications
- Chess Knowledge: A solid understanding of the rules of chess is required. Stronger playing ability is a plus but not required.
- Working with Children: Experience with children is helpful but not required. We value patience, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.
- Background Check: Must be able to pass a background check and provide a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Safe Play Training: Must complete and successfully pass the required Safe Play training before coaching
